When you think of the word, “servant”, what images come to mind? A butler on Downton Abbey? Samwise Gamgee taking care of Frodo Baggins in the Lord of the Rings saga? The butler, Jeeves, keeping Bertie Wooster in line, as read in the stories by P. G. Wodehouse? In each of these instances, the servants seek to truly be helpful to the one they serve; they show how they care deeply for their well being, and seek to do what is best for them.
As we continue to ask, “Did Jesus really say that?” looking at his more challenging sayings; we will reflect on his call to become a servant. What did Jesus envision as he charged those who would follow him to become servants? How did he live this out? This Sunday we will explore what Jesus meant, and what that looks like for us, his followers.
I look forward to worshiping with you this Sunday. Please consider reaching out to someone who does not have a church home and inviting them to join you in worship.
Yours in Christ,
Tomorrow, Saturday, September 22, you are invited to join in the, “Church Clean-up Day” from 9:00am to noon. There are tasks to fit all skill levels, and many hands make light work. Hope to see you there!
